A uniform pressure (distributed load) can be applied to excavation or ground surface boundaries with the Add Pressure option. Loads are applied by selecting the desired boundary line segments, and defining the load magnitude. Multiple loads can be defined, and different magnitudes can be applied at different locations.

Add Pressure can be used to model an applied load, pressure or support force, and is represented on the model by the display of arrows normal to the boundary.

Pressure applied to circular tunnel boundary

The pressure magnitude is generally entered as a positive value. This defines a load directed INTO the rock mass. If you enter a negative magnitude, this will apply the load in the OPPOSITE direction, and exert a tensile pull on the material.
