Drawing Tools

Examine2D provides an extensive drawing and annotation toolkit which allows you to add text annotations, measure distances, angles and areas, and much more. Tools include:

  • Dimensioning Tools
  • Contour Labels
  • Text Boxes
  • Axes
  • Lines / Arrows
  • Rectangles / Circles
  • Polyline / Polygon / Pencil
  • Picture from File

  • Drawing Tools: Dimensioning

The dimensioning tools allow you to easily measure and display lengths, widths (horizontal distance), height (vertical distance) and angles anywhere on the model. The dimensioning information can be customized (e.g. font, style, number of decimal places), and you can even replace or augment the dimension values with additional text.

    Height and width dimensions

Length, width, height and angle measurement

Additional text added to dimension values

    Drawing Tools: Lines and Shapes

A variety of options are available for adding lines and geometric shapes, including Line, Arrow, Rectangle, Circle, Polyline, Polygon and Pencil options. All entities can easily be edited, re-sized, moved, duplicated etc. Line thickness, colour, fill and hatch pattern can be specified.

Lines, shapes, arrows, axes etc can be added to views

Coordinate Axes can be added to the view, using either local or global coordinates. The Polygon option allows you to measure areas, which are displayed as a popup data tip when the mouse is hovered over a Polygon object. This can be used to determine the area of an excavation for example.

    Drawing Tools: Text Annotations

Text annotations can be added with the Text Box option. Pre-defined Auto Text can be added (e.g. to identify material properties, field stress etc), or you can type in any text. Annotations can be easily edited, customized (colour, font, size), moved, rotated etc.

Auto text (material properties) and custom text added to view

Field stress values added using auto text

Add text dialog - text can be typed in the area at left, or Auto Text can be added using the checkboxes at the right

    Drawing Tools: Contour Labels

Contour labels can be added with the Label Contour option. Just click the mouse to add labels representing the value of the nearest contour line. Contour labels can be moved and formatted (e.g. number of decimal places, size etc).

Contour labels added to Sigma3 contour plot

    Drawing Tools: Adding Images

Images in BMP, JPG or GIF format can be added to views with the Picture from File option. This allows you to add graphics such as company logos, etc. You can set the image transparency, display the image behind the model, scale the image size, etc.

    Drawing Tools: Saving and Editing

Drawing tools are automatically saved with the Examine2D file and will automatically re-appear when you open the file. The tools can be edited using various shortcuts, for example:

  • Left click on a tool to re-size or move by clicking and dragging with
          the mouse
  • Right click on a tool, the popup menu will display applicable editing options
  • Double click on a tool to display the Format Tool dialog.

  • Format tool dialog, dimensioning options enabled
