We have launched a new Education section on our website, compiling our extensive resources for both educators and students. Learn more about how you can use Rocscience software as a teaching tool in your courses through our Education Program. For courses outside of the university setting, read about our short course opportunities.

Also read the newest issue of the Education Bulletin for details on the latest Rocscience offerings.

Buoyancy Effect in Settle3D. This tip demonstrates how to account for buoyancy. If buoyancy effects are not taken into account, then the settlement can be overestimated.

We'll be in New Orleans at the GeoCongress 2008. Be sure to stop by our booth. Don't miss the software demo.

The Hoek-Brown criterion was developed to deal with the interlocking between individual rock pieces which occurs in a jointed rock mass. This paper, A Brief History of the Development of the Hoek-Brown Failure Criterion by Dr. Evert Hoek and Dr. Paul Marinos, lays out the chronological evolution of this valuable criterion. A tutorial on how to apply a Preload with Wick Drains using Settle3D. Often it is desirable to preload a normally consolidated soil to induce settlement before a critical structure is built. The application of a preload will tend to compact the soil so that only a small amount of settlement is observed when the desired foundation is then constructed. By using wick drains, the time required for this preload compaction to occur can be significantly reduced.
