Sidebar

The Sidebar in UnWedge is the vertical control panel which is available at the right (or left) side of the UnWedge application window. The options available in the Sidebar change according to the currently selected view you are working with. The Sidebar contains data input and display options that are applicable to the currently selected view.

For example:

  • In the Stereonet View the Sidebar allows you to change the Dip and Dip Direction of each joint.
  • In the 3D Wedge View the Sidebar contains visibility and display options such as Wedge Visibility and Wedge Translation
  • In the Probability View the Sidebar contains a drop-down list of the different results which can be viewed.
  • For all views, the Sidebar displays the Tunnel Axis Orientation options, as well as the Wedge Information panel. The information which is displayed in the panel can be customized with the Filter List option.

Most of the options which are available in the Sidebar are also available through the menu, toolbar, or mouse options. The Sidebar simply provides alternative shortcuts to some frequently used options.

Hiding/Showing the Sidebar

To hide the Sidebar (for example, to maximize the viewing area of your model on the screen):

  1. Click the mouse on the Show/Hide button (the narrow vertical button) at the middle of the inner edge of the Sidebar. This will hide (minimize) the Sidebar.
  2. To re-display the Sidebar just click this button again (it will remain visible at the edge of the UnWedge application window if the Sidebar is minimized).

Re-sizing the Sidebar

The default width of the Sidebar should always be suitable to display the buttons and other options which are available in the Sidebar. However, if you wish, you can increase or decrease the width of the Sidebar, by clicking and dragging the inner vertical edge of the Sidebar:

  1. If you hover the mouse cursor over the inner vertical edge of the Sidebar, the cursor will change to a left/right arrow symbol.
  2. When you see this symbol, you can click and drag the edge of the Sidebar to any desired width.

You should not normally need to change the width of the Sidebar. However, you may sometimes find this useful if you are trying to adjust the width of the view, for example, for screen capture purposes.

When you change the width of the Sidebar, the program will "remember" the change. The next time you start the program, the Sidebar will appear the same size as the last time you used the program.

Displaying the Sidebar on the Left

By default, when you install UnWedge, the Sidebar is displayed at the right side of the application window. However, the user may choose to display the Sidebar on the left. This is done through the Preferences dialog:

  1. Select Preferences Settings Icon from the File menu.
  2. Toggle the Location of the Sidebar to the Left Side or the Right Side.
  3. The program will "remember" your selection. The Sidebar will always be displayed according to the current selection (left or right) in the Preferences dialog.
