Deterministic Analysis Overview

In a Deterministic analysis it is assumed that all input parameters are "exactly" known (e.g. wedge plane orientations, shear strength, etc), and Swedge computes the factor of safety (FS) for a single wedge.

The general procedure for carrying out a Deterministic Analysis with Swedge is as follows.

Analysis Type

Set the Analysis Type to Deterministic. This can be selected in the Project Settings dialog or from the drop-list in the toolbar.

Input Data

In the Input Data dialog, enter the data as described in the following topics.

Slope Properties

Joint Properties

Tension Crack

Forces

Support (e.g. bolts, shotcrete) can be added as described in the Support Overview topic.

Compute

The Deterministic Analysis is computed when you select OK (or Apply) in the Input Data dialog, or when support is added or modified.

Analysis Results

After the analysis is computed, the Sidebar will display a summary of results (factor of safety, wedge weight etc). A complete listing of all analysis input and output data, can be found in the Info Viewer.
