Can the program model non-horizontal soil layers?
Settle3D version 1.0 can only model soil layers which are horizontal and continuous. It is expected that future versions of the program will allow non-horizontal soil layers and more generalized soil geometry.
Is it possible to model loads with a rigid foundation?
Settle3D version 1.0 assumes that applied loads have a flexible foundation. A rigid load analysis option is not currently available. This will be considered for the next version of the program.
Where do I enter Poisson's ratio for a material?
By default, Settle3D only calculates vertical stresses and vertical displacements. Horizontal stresses and strains are not considered, so Poisson’s ratio is not required, and cannot be entered.
However, you can perform calculations using the mean 3D stress instead of only the vertical stress (go to Project Settings > Advanced > Use Mean 3D stress). In this case, you can set the Poisson’s ratio for each material in the Soil Properties dialog. See the Theory manual for more information about using mean stress.
