Add Liner

Liners in Phase2 can be applied to Excavation, External, Material, or Stage boundaries. They cannot be applied to Joint boundaries or Structural Interface boundaries (a liner is implicitly part of a Structural Interface boundary).

To add liners to a model:

  1. Select Add Liner from the toolbar or the Support menu.

NOTE: Liners can only be applied if the finite element mesh exists. If the Add Liner option is disabled, then you will have to generate the mesh before you can select Add Liner.

  1. You will see the Add Liner dialog. In the dialog, enter the following information and select OK.

NOTE: the Liner Property type and Staging information can be changed or modified at any time after liners have been added, with the Assign option.

  1. Select the boundary line segments that you want to apply a liner to. Liners can be added to Excavation, Stage, Material or External boundary line segments.

TIP: to select multiple adjoining line segments (for example, the curved roof of an excavation), a selection window is useful.

  1. When you are finished selecting, press Enter or right-click and select Done Selection.

  2. Liners are represented by thick coloured line segments displayed along each finite element edge. Each coloured line segment represents a "beam" element on a boundary. The colour corresponds to the Liner Property type which was selected in the Add Liner dialog (Step 2).

If liners are not initially installed at the desired stage, or with the desired property type, the staging and property type can be changed at any later time using the Assign option. See the Assign Liners topic for more information.

Reverse Liner Orientation

Under certain circumstances, after a liner has been added to a model, it may be desirable or necessary to reverse the liner sign convention for bending calculations. For this purpose you can use the Reverse Liner Orientation option, see that topic for details.
