Examine2D > Boundaries > Edit Boundaries
For many options in Examine2D you are required to select entities on the screen, for example, while you are:
Adding pressure loads
Deleting drawing tools or queries
If you are using one of these options, here are some useful tips to remember when selecting.
General Rules
When an entity is selected, it will temporarily change colour or line style, to indicate that it is selected. For example, boundaries change to dashed red lines when selected.
IMPORTANT!!! Selection works as a toggle. That is, whenever an entity is selected, it can be de-selected by simply clicking on it again with the left mouse button. This is useful any time that you select an entity by accident, that you did not intend to select.
Selection Window
Entities can be selected by drawing a rectangular Selection Window around them with the mouse (i.e. click and drag to define a window). This is useful for selecting multiple entities. When selecting entities with a window, there are two modes available:
Select Inside Only - this requires that entities must be COMPLETELY within the window to be selected.
Select Inside or Crossing - this will select entities within or crossing the window (not applicable to vertices, see note below).
The two Selection Window modes can be accessed with the right-mouse button. You may find the two window selecting modes to be useful in different situations, experiment with them to see how they work.
NOTE: the Select Inside or Crossing mode is only applicable when selecting line segments, or entire entities. It is NOT applicable if you are selecting vertices (e.g. for moving or deleting).
Selecting All Entities
To select ALL entities of a given type (e.g. all excavations or all pressure loads), you can simply drag a selection window (see above) around all entities to be selected.
TIP: if you Zoom Out until the entire model is visible in the view, you can enclose the entire model with a selection window, to ensure that all objects are selected.
Clear Selection
To quickly clear the selection of ALL currently selected entities, you can select Clear Selection from the right-click menu. You can clear the selection of individual entities by clicking on them again with the mouse. If you are not in any particular editing mode, and you have selected an entity with the mouse, then you can click outside of the entity, or press Escape, to clear the selection.
