Examine2D > Viewing and Display Options
The Legend indicates the values of the currently displayed data contours (e.g. Sigma1, Displacement, Strength Factor).

The display of the Legend can be customized in the Legend Options dialog, and with mouse shortcuts. To access Legend Options:
select Legend Options from the View menu, OR
right click ON the Legend and select an option from the popup menu
The Legend Options are described below.
Show / Hide Legend
To show or hide the Legend, toggle the Show Legend checkbox in the Legend Options dialog. You can also right click on the Legend and select Hide Legend. If you hide the legend using the right click shortcut, then you must go to the Legend Options dialog in order to re-display the Legend.
Number of Decimal Places
In the Legend Options dialog, you can customize the number of decimal places displayed in the legend. NOTE:
The Number of Decimal Places can be customized for each Data Type (For example, Sigma 1, Strength Factor and Displacement, can each have an individually customized Number of Decimal Places). Examine2D will automatically save the latest settings you have chosen for each Data Type, so that you do not have to reset the Number of Decimal Places each time you start the program.
The Number of Decimal Places in Legend Options also controls the number of decimal places displayed by Contour Labels and Queries.
Legend Location
By default, the Legend Location is Floating, which allows you to click and drag the Legend anywhere in the view with the mouse. If you wish, you can fix the Legend Location in any corner of the view, by selecting the desired option in the Legend Options dialog, or use the right click shortcut.
Black & White Background
To display the Legend with a white background, select the Draw Legend Black & White checkbox in the Legend Options dialog, or use the right click shortcut. A white background improves the visibility of the Legend for printouts and screen captures.
Move / Re-size Legend
The legend can be moved anywhere on the view by clicking and dragging with the mouse (see note below).
The legend can also be lengthened or shortened. If you hover the mouse over the MIDPOINT of the top or bottom of the Legend, you will see a double-arrow icon. Press and HOLD the left mouse button, and drag the mouse up or down, to re-size the legend. As you resize the legend, the number of labeled contour intervals may increase or decrease, depending on the number of intervals defined in the Contour Options dialog. Experiment with this to see how it works.
NOTE: the Legend Location option must be set to Floating, in order to move or re-size the Legend. If the Legend Location is fixed in one corner of the view, then you will not be able to move or re-size the Legend.
Contour Intervals
To adjust the number of contour intervals or the contour style use the Contour Options dialog, which can be accessed from the toolbar, the View menu, or by right clicking on the Legend.
