Add Material Query

The Add Material Query option allows you to define a query anywhere on the model, to obtain data anywhere within the rock mass or soil. The data which is generated by the query, will correspond to the contoured data which is currently being viewed (e.g. Sigma1, Displacement, Strength Factor, etc).

A query can consist of:

To create a query with the Add Material Query option:

  1. Select Add Material Query from the toolbar or the Query menu.

  2. You will be prompted to enter the points defining the query. Use the mouse to enter points graphically, or enter x,y coordinate pairs in the prompt line.

TIP: the Snap options can be useful for entering a query graphically, since you can snap exactly to vertices, boundaries etc.

  1. When you have finished entering points, press Enter, or right-click and select Done, and you will see the Specify Query Locations dialog. There are three methods of defining the intervals for generating the values along your query line. NOTE: the descriptions of the three methods refer to an arbitrary polyline with any number of line segments. The term "vertex" refers to vertices of the query polyline. If your query consists of only a single line segment, then only the first Generate Values option is applicable.

  1. When you are finished with the Specify Query Locations dialog, select OK. The query will be added to the model, and the query values will be generated according to the method chosen in Step 3.

  1. The data generated by the Query can be graphed, copied to the clipboard, displayed on the model etc.

Query Start Point

When you create a Query, you will notice that a circular red dot is displayed at the starting point of the Query. The purpose of this marker is to allow you to easily identify which end of the Query corresponds to the first data point on a Query Graph. The red dot marker on a Query always corresponds to the first data point on a Query Graph.

NOTE: the display of the red dot marker on queries can be turned on or off in the Display Options dialog, under the Queries tab, with the First point marker checkbox. In general you should leave this option turned on.
