TORONTO, ON. (September 1, 2005) - Rocscience Inc., leading developer of geotechnical analysis and design software, is pleased to announce the release of Phase2 6.0 as the latest addition to their comprehensive library of slope stability, excavation design and geotechnical programs.
“This release is partially a response to requests from Phase2 5.0 users who asked for improved usability,” says Dr. Brent Corkum, Rocscience’s Software Development Manager. “At Rocscience, we take user requests for added functionality very seriously and strive to incorporate these requests.”
“We’ve also provided an extension in the application of the program to structures in soil. This includes the modeling of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) slopes, retaining walls and earth dams,” says Dr. Corkum.
There are two major features of this new release: the first is improvements to finite element slope stability analysis using the Shear Strength Reduction (SSR) method. The SSR method is fully automated, so you can obtain the safety factor of the slope with one simple mouse click. As well, slope models can be built in Phase2 or imported from Slide allowing greater user flexibility.
The second feature is the inclusion of finite groundwater seepage analysis. Phase2 6.0 allows you to track steady state and saturated/unsaturated flow. You can also easily define hydraulic boundary conditions and material conductivity functions.
Other important features include:
 |
New material models for rock and soil (Generalized Hoek-Brown,
Cam-Clay, Modified Cam-Clay and Duncan-Chang hyperbolic)
New joint options (pressurized joints, user defined
joint installation stage)
Major improvements to the program interface. This program is
more user-friendly than Phase2 5.0 thanks to the addition of shortcuts
right-click context menus for all objects
New support modeling options:
• New Structural Interface boundary can be used to model
support such as sheet pile walls and geosynthetics
• Grouted tiebacks with a user defined bonded length
• Zero moment boundary condition for hinged liners

Phase2 6.0 can be purchased for $2495 USD ($3195 CDN) directly from Rocscience by visiting their Web site at www.rocscience.com. A free two-week trial version of the complete program can also be obtained by calling 1-416-698-8217 or by emailing software@rocscience.com.
